Zero-knowledge rollup. ZKM has emerged from incubation at the MetisDAO Foundation, to make Ethereum the “universal settlement layer for all blockchain and non-blockchain applications.”
ZKM is developing a hybrid solution that combines Optimistic and Zero-Knowledge rollups, according to an emailed release on Thursday. The money comes from the organization that controls the development of Metis, a layer-2 Ethereum protocol. Rollups are a method of grouping transactions to increase throughput and reduce transaction costs.
The system intends to begin operations on the Ethereum test net in January of next year.
Metis will be the first network to leverage ZKM’s hybrid rollup, allowing the layer 1 chain to do immediate transfers from layer 2.
“From a user experience perspective, all users in the Metis ecosystem will benefit from instant, no-limit asset transfers,” ZKM said in a statement.
ZKM stated that it intends to upgrade existing layer-2 networks like as Metis and Optimism so that its rollup is interoperable with other layer 1s such as Solana, Avalanche, and BNB Chain.
Following that, ZKM stated that it intends to use Ethereum as a settlement layer for non-blockchain applications, providing its infrastructure to systems in cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things.
